Algonquin Nature Adventures: Camping in the Canadian Wilderness
With its stunning natural landscapes, friendly people, and diverse culture, Canada is without a doubt one of my favourite countries I have visited. Throughout my two weeks there I experienced many different sides to the country; from the iconic skylines of the bigger cities to the stunning natural wilderness, there was so much to explore.
One experience that really stood out however was my 4-day wild camping and canoeing experience in Algonquin National Park, north of Toronto.Tour agency Algonquin Nature Adventures offers 3 & 4 day camping experiences right in the heart of the national park, allowing you to fully submerse yourself in the Canadian wilderness.
After arriving at the park we loaded our bags on to the canoes, ready for a scenic paddle to reach our final camping destination. After unpacking in to our tents, we went straight for a swim in the beautiful lake surrounding the campsite. Listening to the wildlife all around us whilst enjoying the water was a beautiful experience that started the trip off right.
After a delicious meal prepared by our wonderful guide Baz, we went for an evening canoe, allowing us to experience the different sounds of nature that come out after sunset.
The next few days involved canoeing to many beautiful locations in search of local wildlife. One major highlight was seeing a moose and its baby up close, it was one of the most surreal experiences ever. We went cliff diving and relaxed in a hidden spot and made up and ate the most tasty smoked meat subs in our canoes in the middle of the lake. We relaxed at the campsite, enjoying having no phones or connection to the outside world and truly being able to unwind. We went for swims in the lake at night and stayed up in the tent listening to all sorts of wildlife sounds we hadn’t ever heard before.
